Nigeria needs a Mother's led Leadership

✅ 1. FULL INTERVIEW  FOR ADA KATE UCHEGBU (PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT)

Theme: A New Nigeria With a Mother’s Touch

---

INTRODUCTION — “Tell us about yourself and why you are running for president.”

Thank you for having me.

My name is Ada Kate Uchegbu, an author, media professional, humanitarian advocate, and a believer in a New Nigeria that works for every citizen — not just a privileged few.

I am running for president because I believe Nigeria is at a turning point. We have tried the same style of leadership for decades — strongmen politics, recycled leaders, and policies disconnected from ordinary people. It is time for a new direction.

Nigeria needs a Mother’s Touch — leadership that is compassionate but firm, strategic but humane, and committed to national healing and security.

---

SECTION A — CORE QUESTIONS

---

Q1. Why do we have fewer women in the National Assembly?

Nigeria has fewer women in the National Assembly because our system was never designed with women in mind.

Women face:

Limited access to funding

Hostile political environments

Cultural stereotypes

Political violence

Party bias

Media discrimination

Women are not lacking competence — they are lacking equal opportunity.

This must change.

---

Q2. What challenges do female politicians face?

Major challenges include:

Gender discrimination

High nomination form costs

Lack of godfather networks

Security risks

Cultural beliefs limiting women’s public leadership

Party structures designed around men

These barriers do not reflect our abilities — they reflect the structure of our politics.

---

Q3. Do you support the 30% affirmative action?

Absolutely — yes.

I support 30% and believe Nigeria should aim for 35–40% representation, in line with global standards.

Affirmative action is not a favour to women — it is justice.

Women deserve equal space in leadership.

---

Q4. What is your vision for Nigeria?

My vision is a New Nigeria With a Mother’s Touch, focused on:

SECURITY

Defeat terrorism & banditry

Strengthen intelligence and surveillance

Protect women, children & farmers

Community policing reform

ECONOMY

Support SMEs, women & youth entrepreneurs

Build local production capacity

Stabilize the naira

Job creation through manufacturing & tech

HEALTHCARE

Universal health access

Modern hospitals

Maternal & child health priority

EDUCATION

Digital learning

Vocational training

Reintegration of out-of-school children

WOMEN & YOUTH

Leadership opportunities

Funding access

Nationwide mentorship

A mother does not abandon her children — and I will not abandon Nigerians.

---

Q5. Does the Electoral Act favour women?

Not fully.

The Electoral Act improved transparency, but women still struggle with:

High cost of forms

Intra-party bias

Political intimidation

Reforms must include safety, affordability, and real inclusion.

---

Q6. Is Nigeria ripe for a female president?

Nigeria is more than ripe — we are overdue.

Look at banking, universities, civil society, technology — Nigerian women excel everywhere.

The only place we are missing is the highest office.

The nation is ready.

Women are ready.

History is ready.

---

Q7. Rate the current government.

Economy: Inflation and poverty remain high. Many Nigerians cannot meet basic needs.

Security: Kidnapping, terrorism, and communal conflicts continue.

Infrastructure: Progress exists but is too slow for a population of over 200 million.

Nigerians deserve better.
